PART 2: DERMATITIS AND ALOPECIA

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify pediatric dermatoses more likely to present in children with skin of color and textured hair.
  2. Become more familiar with different morphology that may be seen in children with skin of color.
  3. Review treatment options and special considerations in management of these dermatoses.

Crystal Y. Pourciau, MD, MPH, FAAD, is a proud alumna of Spelman College. She earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. She completed her internship in Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and her Dermatology residency at Henry Ford Health Center in Detroit. She later completed a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Pourciau is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology with academic appointments in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Kaplan-Amonette Department of Dermatology, and Department of Pediatrics. She is an Attending Physician in the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pourciau serves on the Editorial Board of Pediatric Dermatology. She has served in various leadership positions at her academic institution, including Vice Chair of the Admissions Committee for the College of Medicine and Co-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee. She has also served in leadership positions in the National Medical Association, Dermatology Section, and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology. Her clinical interests include eczematous dermatitis, specialized care of skin of color, health care disparities, and social determinants of health.
