Professional Bio
Dr. Sumayah Taliaferro is Founder/Medical Director of Atlanta Dermatology & Aesthetics, PC which offers comprehensive care in medical and cosmetic dermatology. She is known for providing careful surveillance of skin cancer and thoughtful solutions for acne, aging skin, hyperpigmentation, and hair loss. Her areas of special interest are pigmentary disorders, alopecia, and cosmetic dermatology, but also include cutaneous manifestations of internal disease, given her background and training in internal medicine. Her practice offers expertise in numerous skin and scalp conditions, laser treatment of the skin, cosmeceuticals, and treatments for facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Taliaferro attended Brown University and Alpert Medical School of Brown University followed by training in the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Program and residency in dermatology at Howard University. She has co-written chapters in Treatment of Skin of Color (Taylor et al), Aesthetic Surgery for Men (Jeffords, et al) and Fitzpatrick's Dermatology in General Medicine, the premier textbook of dermatology. She is a past president of the Atlanta Association for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an active member of the National Medical Association, the Women’s Dermatologic Society, the Skin of Color Society, and the History of Dermatology Society. She has served on the Board for the Medical Association of Atlanta and as a delegate for the Medical Association of Georgia numerous times, served as “Doctor of the Day” at the Georgia State Capital, and participated in the Georgia Physician’s Leadership Academy. She has been a speaker for Galderma, Pfizer, Dermavant, Aerolase, and has been an expert guest on Fox 5 Good Day Atlanta,11 Alive News, Housewives of Atlanta, and Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta. She enjoys reading, writing, community service, serving at church, dancing for exercise, and supporting the arts community in Atlanta.
