Education Committee
The Education Committee advances SOCS’ mission by overseeing the development, curation, and dissemination of high-quality educational content for both healthcare professionals and the public. The Committee operates through two subcommittees: Professional Education and Public Education.
Professional Education Subcommittee
The Professional Education Subcommittee is responsible for advancing clinical knowledge and expertise in skin of color dermatology among healthcare professionals. It evaluates educational proposals from Medical Education Companies (MECs) to ensure alignment with SOCS standards and priorities. The subcommittee develops and curates clinician-focused content for SOCS educational platforms, including The Exchange x SOCS on-demand learning center and the SOCS website.
It collaborates across committees to produce educational video and podcast content, including Skin of Color Savvy: The Art & Science of Treating Patients of Color, in partnership with the Media Relations Committee. The subcommittee also oversees SOCS’ engagement with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Image Collection initiative, promotes increased representation of skin of color in medical textbooks, and recommends national and domestic educational collaborations for SOCS member participation.
Public Education Subcommittee
The Public Education Subcommittee develops and disseminates culturally relevant, accessible educational resources to improve skin health awareness and outcomes for individuals with skin of color. It focuses on addressing dermatologic conditions, concerns, and preventive care through patient-centered education.
The subcommittee oversees public-facing initiatives, including collaborating with the SOCS Serves Committee on the My Best Winter Skin campaign, and is responsible for exploring innovative approaches to education delivery, including the use of Assisted Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), to enhance reach, engagement, and impact.
